Ghost Ship
Normally, American ghost movies suck. I mean if you are going to make a ghost movie, make something that really gives the chills, like Japanese and Korean ghost movies. But then, most Japanese and Korean ghost movies aren't that much of fun except fot the great effects because they don't have a plot, a purpose for the story. For them, ghosts kill for fun... stupid... Like The Ring and Ju-on, people without any what-so-ever connection die because they want to make the movie scary... wu liao...
Just finished the Ghost Ship after a lot of good remarks from my friend last year (shows that I'm not really up to date with movies), true it doesn't scare me at all, but they got a story and something to think about after the show.
Ghost Ship, a ship full of ghosts. Why is it full of ghosts? Because there's something in human form collecting human souls for his "employer". How did he get on the ship in the first place? Well, there's a bait, if you watched the movie, they are using gold as bait. The thing about human beings, we all have greed. As this movie shows, the greed is for gold, and for a couple of other things.
So, if nobody has taken the gold in the first place, nobody would have been the prey of this scavenger of souls. The gold is tempting enough, but when your life is at risk, will you still hold on to the gold? The same goes for all the other temptations in life, what do you have to forgo in exchange or what are you willing to give up to resist it?
So, American movies don't give you the creeps, but they got a story and a moral behind. Japanese and Korean movies... Got to work more on the scripts. Hey, why have nobody thought of getting American scriptwriters and Japanese or Korean directors. I think I'll go for a movie like that...
The best movie I have seen so far is a Thai production, The Shutter. Cool effects and great story. Tell ya, it's the first movie that's ever gotten me to scream ;) Think about that.

I'm actually interested in paranormal activities and such, but I hate it when I have such encounters (yes, I do have such encounters...) There's a lot of ghost movies out there, yet only a few contains barely enough spook to scare us into our blankets.
And, Japanese & Korean ghost stories seem to share the same plot - someone died with a grudge, and his/her spirit will stay on the spot and haunt and torture and kill any living being with the horror s/he unleashes upon his/her victims. And there will be one hero to either exorcise the spirit or kamikaze with it, which in my opinion starts to become kinda dull.
So, if anyone wants a REEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAL scare, why not try out those paranormal-themed games ? The Fatal Frame series, and also the upcoming F.E.A.R. ... (sounds promising but I wonder if it's really that good or not?)
