Haze

When was it the last time we had such a major haze? 1997 maybe. Still remember the time when all the masks were gone in a flash in pharmacies all over the nation.

Hope that this time, the haze won't be that long live. Wishing... for better air...

1997. Yuk Chai Primary School, Taman Megah.

The papers for the whole of October were sprawled everywhere on the table. News, from events of the whole world, the havocs in SEA region, new diseases spreading out in Malaysia causing the whole nation to panic. And, of course, the haze.

The kids around me were jotting down notes from the papers to prepare for the upcoming Nationwide Quiz finals. We were the representive team for our school, specially sifted from the 5th and 6th years, passing the first quiz with pretty high marks.

I looked into the world, and felt how small and helpless we humans were. The haze itself is enough to drive mankind into chaos.

People were sick. People were dying. And people were dead. And because of this, people were afraid.

This is not fate, neither it is the wrath from the gods. It's the way things were suppose to go, Nature's way.

We must remember that we are living with our feet standing on Mother Earth, and we must obey the rules she has set for all of us who dwells upon her. So that's why we must reduce pollution, in any forms, to protect the world we're living in.
